$$a Original cataloging agency (NR)

This subfield is used to enter the code indicated the institutional creator of the catalog record. We use OCLC codes for this. MH-H for standard Houghton  and MH-HT for the Theatre Collection.

$$b Language of cataloging (NR)

This subfield is used to enter the code for the language in which the catalog record is created. In almost all cases, material cataloged at Houghton will be coded "eng".

$$c Transcribing agency (NR)

This subfield is used to enter the institutional creator transcribing the record into machine-readable format. For us, we are more the original cataloging agency and the transcribing agency, so repeat either MH-H or MH-HT here.

$$e Description conventions (NR)

This subfield is used to enter MARC code of title of the descriptive rules used to create the record. Here we enter dacs.

examples:

040 __  $$a MH-H  $$b eng $$c MH-H  $$e dacs (for main Houghton material)

040 __  $$a MH-HT  $$b eng $$c MH-HT  $$e dacs (for Theatre Collection material)
