Glossary
Beneficiaries: Anyone, whether directly involved in the project or not, who will benefit from the end result of the project.
Product owner: Designated representative of the working group, likely the chair or co-chair, who represents the working group at meetings with the Project team
Project manager: Facilitates project team meetings, meets with Working group, removes and escalates obstacles, provides project updates as defined in communication plan
Project Team: A group of SMEs and technical staff responsible for performing the technical work necessary to produce the solution stated in the project charter. Meets on a frequency determined in the project charter and will consult with the Working Group as needed throughout the project.
Depending on the project, may include the following roles:
- Project Manager
- Subject Matter Expert
- Business Analyst
- Quality Assurance Analyst
- Architect
- Software Engineer
- Systems Engineer
- UI Designer
- Metadata Analyst
Responsibilities include:
- Participate in definition of business requirements
- Perform technical work
- Communicate with Working Group as determined in the project charter and present demonstration meetings
Project Charter: A document that sets out the goals and parameters for the project, including problem and solution, roles and responsibilities, scope, timeline, and budget.
Sponsor: An individual who provides executive sponsorship and oversight of the project.
Responsibilities include:
- Champion the project within HL
- Review and approve project charter and key deliverables
- Resolve resource and prioritization issues that are beyond the control of the Project Manager
- Attend and provide feedback at demonstration meetings
- Facilitate change management associated with the project
Subject Matter Expert (SME): An individual who is an authority in the functionality associated with the project and can inform feature development. At least one SME should be a member of the project team.
Working Group: A group designated through the HL governance structure to perform business work necessary to produce the solution stated in the project charter.
Responsibilities include:
- Designate at least one SME to participate in the Project Team
- Support the SME in definition and prioritization of business requirements
- Attend and provide feedback at demonstration meetings
- Perform User Acceptance Testing throughout the project
