Streaming Video Help

Need help with streaming video? Send your questions and feedback to Harvard Library Technology Services.

On this page:

This help page describes the video player used by the Harvard Library Streaming Delivery Service. This service provides access to digital video stored in the Library's Digital Repository Service (DRS). Links to videos can be found in the Library's online catalog (HOLLIS+) and on individual library web sites.

How do I use the video player?

Your video will open in a browser-based viewer called JW Player that is compatible with major browsers and operating platforms. There is nothing to download or install – everything is handled by the browser.

The control bar below the video lets you play/pause, display captions (if available), control audio volume, expand the player to full screen (press Esc to exit) and change speeds. Click and drag the video timeline to fast-forward and rewind.

More information about this player, including troubleshooting tips, is available from the JW Player web site.

Can I download the video?

At this time, videos can be streamed but not downloaded.

Any future plans for the video player?

This beta release of the Harvard Library Streaming Video Service is just getting started. In future releases, we plan to add these capabilities:

  • Search closed caption text
  • Location seeking within a video
  • Link to timecode slice of a video
  • Option to download a video
  • Display of technical metadata

If you have a feature suggestion, please contact Harvard Library Technology Services.
