Streaming Audio Help

This help page describes the audio player used by the Harvard Library Streaming Delivery Service (SDS). This service streams digital audio stored in the Library's Digital Repository Service (DRS) to a web browser. Links to audio can be found in the Library's online catalog (HOLLIS+) and on individual library web sites. 

At this time, SDS delivers two types of audio –  recently digitized recordings in MP3 and MP4 (m4a) formats and older recordings in the RealAudio format. 

How do I play MP3/MP4 files?

If the audio you select is in MP3 or MP4 format, it will open in a browser-based player called JW Player that is compatible with major browsers and operating platforms. There is nothing to download or install – everything is handled by the browser. 

The player's control bar lets you play/pause, control audio volume, and move forward or back by dragging the audio timeline. 

How do I play RealAudio files?

If the audio you select is in RealAudio format, your browser may prompt you to download the file or open it in RealPlayer.  If there is only a download choice, you may need to download RealPlayer.

Can I download the audio?

At this time, audio can be streamed but not downloaded.
