LSST drift scanning

Notes on using LSST for space junk monitoring. June 11 2013, C. Stubbs

Plate scale is 0.2 arc sec/pixel.

Each amplifier segment is 2000 pixels high.

Sky goes by at a rate of 15 arc sec/sec, which is a row rate of 15/.2=75 rows per sec. With 512 pixels per row, that's a leisurely rate of 38.4 Kpix/sec.Integration time is 2000/75=26.6 sec on the equator.

There are 21 science rafts, only half the amplifiers contribute to drift scan integrations. Most objects transit across 5 CCD's, so net integration time is 5*0.5=2.5 minutes.

If we do TDI readout at a rate R, things streak at (track-R) and (track+R) on either side of the CCD midline.
