Course Reserves in Alma & Leganto

Two Ex Libris systems are used to manage Course Reserves for our users:

  • Alma stores information about courses, instructional staff associated with a course, reading lists, and citation data.
  • Leganto (another Ex Libris product) allows instructional staff to create or reuse reading lists and citations from within the Canvas course.

Note that schools not using Leganto can manage course reserves in Alma.

Reading Lists in Alma

Alma is able to communicate with Canvas through Leganto, an LTI (Learning Tools Integration) system that appears in Canvas as “Library Reserves.” Faculty, instructors, teaching assistants, and library staff, can submit reading lists and citations in this system and push them directly to Alma, where library staff can see requests for reserve materials and fulfill those requests. Reading lists and citations were transferred from the R-List into Alma during the migration in 2018 for future reference and reuse.

It should be noted that LTS, with assistance from the Alma Reserves Working Group, has mapped courses offered by the various FAS departments to the appropriate library location for the processing of reserves, whether the reserves will actually be held at that library or not. Courses offered by the various schools are mapped to their respective libraries.
