Sandbox testing

Alma sandbox changes can be seen in the Primo sandbox, after manually running the Alma CDI publishing job on sandbox, which takes approximately 48-72 hours to complete. Contact LTS to run these jobs on the Alma sandbox.

ExL docs also refer to Filtered Search, which means a customer does't Expand by default like we do. Filtered search means you only show Online content from CDI in the search results (in which case users will also see an Expand beyond button in the interface). Users in our site don't see the Expand option because we Expand by default.

Exclude eBooks from CDI Results

Enabled at Harvard
Configured in Primo back office
If an Alma collection contains any portfolios, ebook records for that collection in CDI will no longer appear in search results, to prevent duplication. This applies even if those portfolios are not activated in IZ.
There is no exact comparison of portfolios at the title-level, there is a simple test for the presence of portfolios at the collection level in Alma.
Books from database collections will continue to appear in the CDI search results.
For example, if you have active collections for Wiley or JSTOR books, the duplicate records won't be returned by a CDI search, but the books from HathiTrust or other collections without portfolios in Alma are returned.

Display multiple links in View It

NOT enabled at Harvard. Configured in Primo back office.
- Assessment - doesn't add much and makes UI more confusing. Would require additional CSS work, in search results and full view.
Instead of Primo displaying a single preferred link from CDI, this enhancement allows users to choose from other options to view full text in the View Online section
If there are multiple linking options to view full text, the Show More link appears under the preferred linking option. Grouped in this order if they exist:
- Direct links (links/linktorsrc, linkstorsrcadditional)
- Link resolver (openurl)
- OA

Configuring Provider Preferences for CDI Linking (Nov '22)

NOT enabled at Harvard. Configured in Alma - Configuration Menu > Fulfillment > Discovery Interface Display Logic > Central Index
NOT same as Online Order of E-Resources configuration. Online Order applies to openURL links. This setting doesn't.
This setting applies to merged records.
- Merged records can be created from records in a collection to which you may not subscribe.
- If the merged record has multiple "link in record" links, the preferred provider from the Alma config will be applied. Otherwise it's alphabetical

Quicklinks

Adds additional link to search results for PDF/HTML
The normal Online Access link goes to provider page for the resource. With this setting there is also a "get PDF" or "go to html" option for more direct access.
IMPORTANT: we do offer PDF links in search results, in addition to Online Access links, but these are provided by API through LibKey service (Third Iron, with Browzine subscription)

Collection-level activation and search options - what each setting does

Alma label	What it means in Primo	Note
Settings we can change
Active / Inactive (blue vs black)	If active, "View Online" link will appear for anything in that collection. If inactive, "How to get it" will appear If portfolios exist, those will be published to Primo. This may duplicate content in CDI.	Activating an FT collection also makes a collection searchable in CDI by default without you choosing that setting. However, we should still use the Activate for Search in CDI so that we still see Book Chapters as Online.
Active for search in CDI or CDI Search activation status	Yes means the content will be searchable. We should always say Yes here, even if collection is activated, unless it's one of the collection that D2D recommends we exclude like Wikipedia. If this is No, and we have some active portfolios and some inactive portfolios, only the active ones will show as View Online, BUT no Book Chapters from CDI will show as View Online, even if we have the book activated. Link resolver still works.	Another way to prevent duplicate content would be to suppress the bibs in Alma, but that's assuming the CDI records are significantly better. No will also remove collection from CDI holdings file.
We subscribe to only some titles in this collection	Yes = means that CDI will try to match your active portfolios in Alma to records in CDI to show View Online on those. This matching doesn't always work, so with this ticked, for records that are hard to match (no identifiers), the View Online may not show even though we subscribe. Solution is to un-tick this, assuming we have most/all of it. No = everything from the collection (as identified in CDI) will show as Online.	Basecamp explanation Also, if CDI has more title-level info than the Alma collection's portfolios, and you have Selective = Yes, the extra content in CDI will not appear as Online. It will appear as Online if you have Selective = No, because then everything for that collection in CDI is active Example; Alexander Street Press Academic Video Online. We have purchased ~100 titles of an ~80K title collection, so Selective = Yes. There are duplicate records without identifiers, e.g. Persepolis (2007). The Alma version shows as Online. The CDI version does not.
Do not show as FT available in CDI even if active in Alma	If this is ticked, CDI content will not have a View Online link in Primo. Instead it will have a "How to get it." Link resolver will still go to subscribed target. Any bibs in Alma will still publish to Primo as active (View Online).	This affects book chapters in CDI as well. Those will appear as unavailable if this option is used. Documentation often refers to this option as "Suppress in CDI" but that's only true for customers who do not use the Expand search. For those customers, this option would have the effect of removing duplicate ebooks from the search results in cases where Alma has portfolios and the ebook records are also in CDI.
CDI-only full text activation	Migration related field, used in cases where there is no activation in Alma (i.e. the migration process couldn't find the matching collection) but there was a collection active for search in PCI. In that situation, the migration process adds an IZ record with this setting so that users don't lose access to this collection when searching Primo	You don't have to change this, but disadvantage is of leaving it is that the collection is not "fully" activated in Alma: bib for DBs is suppresed, portfolios not activated. Also, there a duplicate collection in Alma. To fully activate, remove CDI-only FT activation, activate collection (un-suppress bib, activate portfolios). If you have orders/licenses on the local collection, better to just leave them both
Information flags in Alma (info supplied by ExL)
In CDI	Means content from this collection is searchable in CDI if you Activate for Search, whether it is from provider or other sources (alternate coverage). Yes means at least 80% of content is indexed.	Yes means that CDI may have content to which we do not subscribe, and we show it anyway (which is what we want). Primo will check anywhere in the index for the active item, regardless of whether the metadata is from the provider platform or an aggregator, or other.
CDI search rights	If subscription is required for search, users have to be logged in to Primo to see results.

CDI FT linking	Types, ordered by precedence: direct link - provider includes a Doc ID in record and that is sent to uResolver link template - same as link in record except provider requires a customer-specific parameter as well, which is stored in the Primo template mapping table (e.g. Naxos) link in record - Primo uses link provided by the metadata provider when they supplied their record; goes to single platform (e.g. ASP) openURL - Primo uses elements from PXN addata and sends to Alma uResolver	For merged records where the source uses different types of linking (e.g. resolver vs. link in record): if we have access to at least one of the collections using Link in Record, system uses that, from most reliable provider Links using documentID are given priority over metadata links If Link in record is Open Access, openURL takes precedence
