Best Practices for Item Records: Description, Enumeration, and Chronology Fields

Multiple copies of serial issues

When cataloging a duplicate copy of a serial issue that will be housed in the same location as the identical copies, do NOT create a separate holding record, as is the practice with books. Record instead $$z Copy (no.) in the 863 for the duplicate issue.

However, cataloger judgement can be used to create a separate holding record for duplicate copies if the number of copies approaches a duplication of the entire run.
