Scanned Key Content (SKC) [draft 12/02/2021]

The SKC Project is a collaboration between Special Collections repositories and Imaging Services to provide enhanced access to content through HOLLIS.

• Schlesinger published materials staff will move scanned images into the appropriate file on SharePoint: Schlesinger Library -- Xternal --SKC_Images when the images are ready to load to the DRS.
• Published Materials Dept. (Lee) will email Imaging Services (Mingtao) when the images are ready to load to the DRS.
• Scanned images will be loaded to the DRS by Imaging Services on a quarterly basis.
  
• LTS (Corinna Baksik) will run a script to link the images to the appropriate holdings records in Alma; then notify the Head of Published Materials at Schlesinger (Lee Sullivan) when this occurs.

Scheduled SKC loads: Quarterly: June/September/December/March

• After images are loaded to the DRS, the already loaded images will be moved (by Published Materials -Lee)  to Sharepoint: Published Materials--Scanning Key Content–-SKC Restart 2021–-Deposited Scans (by date),  and kept for a year.

Materials to add scanned key content for:

• Culinary Pamphlets AND Health and Hygiene Pamphlets with confusing editions/printings, graphically engaging covers, table of contents with recipes that would be helpful to researchers, inscriptions of interest, + similar considerations. 

• Items with Curator's flag inserted (green slip) indicating which pages should be scanned for key content.

File naming conventions: File names must be formatted correctly with the Bib ID and the Holdings ID  in order to link to the images in the DRS and so that images will appear in the desired order on HOLLIS.

When files are named and ready for deposit in the DRS, save the files to Sharepoint Folder: Schlesinger Library - Xternal – SKC_Images

            SKC_0001 not restricted    Images that are out of copyright protection. Rule of thumb: Published PRIOR TO 1926.

            SKC_0002 restricted       Images that are still protected by copyright. Materials published in 1926 and after. *Consult with colleague if uncertain. These images will be restricted to thumbnails only.
