Unaccessioned serials
Unaccessioned serials include titles gifted to the library or titles separated from manuscript collections. They are given to the Head of Published Materials before being passed on to the cataloger.
Unaccessioned serials to be cataloged are stored in aisle 94 of the Pool Vault. Map here. Inventory list here.
They are boxed by donor or, if the box contains a small number of titles from many donors, by date.
Boxes are labelled with:
Serials to catalog
(Gift or From MSS)
Received (Date)
Curator (Initials)
(Donor or title)
Select titles, however, that arrive as gifts or from manuscript collections may be accessioned in order to increase visibility and streamline cataloging. They will be stored in the Pool Vault with the unaccessioned serials. They should likewise be listed in the inventory but noted if they are accessioned.
Note: purchased serials are regularly accessioned. They are stored in the department's waiting shelves on the fourth floor.
