Filters

When building and editing analyses, it's easiest to work in the Criteria tab. When you're ready to finalize the view, switch to the Results (Compound Layout ) tab.

Filters Overview

Filters allow you to limit the amount of data displayed in your results and are applied by the analysis before the results are aggregated. Filters affect the analysis and, thus, the resulting values for measures. Filters can be applied directly to descriptive columns and measure columns.

We suggest going slowly with filters, as they might interact in strange ways and affect your results. Add them one at a time, and check what a filter does to your analysis as you go.

Add Filters

To add a filter, you can:

  • Click on the drop-down menu on the right side of a column, and select Filter
  • In the Filters section at the bottom of the Edit screen, click on the filter icon and select from the list of columns, or select More Columns... to see a full list of dimensions and columns for the Subject.
    • Note that you are able to use this option to filter on a column that you do not want to include in your results.
  • Is it also possible to create and add SQL queries to create filters. See the Advanced Formulas page and look for SQL labeled as for filters.

Delete Filters

To delete filters, hover over the filter you want to delete in the Filters Area and click on the red X that displays.

Practice Example

New Analysis Example (continued)

In the analysis you created from scratch, add the following filters:

  • Library Location only at: Lamont, Cabot, Widener
  • Number of Loans > 0
  • Number of Items > 100

However: If you add more than 1 filter, the filters are combined using an AND operator. If you want to use an OR operator, click on AND and it will change to OR.
